The USS Nimitz (CVN-68) is the lead ship of the Nimitz-class aircraft carriers and one of the most powerful warships in the world.
Commissioned in 1975, the Nimitz was the first of its class, named in honor of Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz, who played a critical role in the Pacific theater during World War II.
