The LEGO MV Blue Marlin featuring USS Cole MOC pays tribute to one of the most dramatic heavy-lift operations in modern maritime history.
The MV Blue Marlin is a semi-submersible heavy-lift ship, famously tasked with transporting the USS Cole back to the United States after it was damaged in a terrorist attack in 2000. The sight of the destroyer, USS Cole, perched atop the massive Blue Marlin, showcases the ingenuity of heavy-lift operations and the amazing feats of modern naval engineering. It’s also impressive LEGO display in my opinion.

This model actually includes a LEGO Arleigh Burke Class Destroyer MOC in order to recreate a real photograph taken in 2000 following an attack on the USS Cole. This ship model itself wasn’t easy to built to a 1:1000 scale simply because of it’s think flat hull which serves as a ballast in order to submerge the entire ship in the water depending on the load.
There’s also a “solo” version of the LEGO MV Blue Marlin MOC, which I published exclusively on Rebrickable in it’s default red color scheme.
